Mmmmm....

The best thing to come out of England after John, Freddie, Brian and Roger, as well as Sean Bean, is lemon curd and clotted cream on scones.

My fan fiction

I've decided to open a seperate LJ for my fan fiction. My nom de plume is [info]sms_fic and will be open to everyone, unless it appears to get out of hand. It is flagged as adult content and sensitive or young readers (under the age of 18-21) should be moving along quickly. Pleasant greetings and comments are always appreciated, while comments that my stuff sucks will be deleted. LOL!

Announcement

I write. I write often. I have written since I was little. But my stories have taken a decidedly suggestive turn since I've gotten older. No longer are they written about children who build a space ship in their back yard and travel to the spaghetti planet. Nor am I writing about race horses, which was my literary obsession when I was 12.

Now I write fan fiction. Totally insane, improbable, crazy and funny fan fiction. I write about Sean Bean, Marton Csokas and Mads Mikkelsen. I don't write about John Deacon and/or Queen. Probably because I can't bear to defile them with my nonsense.

I'm going to try and figure out how to post my stories without making everyone read them, or making a completely seperate journal to do so. If I figure out the links tabs, you'll be the first to know. If you are interested in reading my stories, please post a response here and I'll add you to the list of those who can view them.

BTW, my stories are all rated R or above. Who knew sex could be so silly?

Happy Mother's Day

..to all you mothers out there. Special wishes go to Diane, Laurel, Becky and Kerri because I know they have produced offspring of the human variety. Cathy also gets a mothers day wish because she is the mother of some cats. Anyone else?

Whew! Is it Sunday afternoon already? I want a refund on my weekend. Not that it was bad, but it wasn't around long.

Friday night afterwork, some friends and I went to the Flathead Valley Community College drama departments production of The Rocky Horror Show. Some great local talent, lots of fun and plenty of raunch. The guy who played Riff-Raff hit  a rock star scream that nearly had everyone in the theater on their feet cheering! They really did a great job!

Saturday I was on call and went into work about 9 a.m. The nice thing about on-call is that it's time and a half, and you only work a few hours. When I finally got out of there at 3:56 pm, I was thinking on-call wasn't so much fun. But it's a good addition to a paycheck, so that helped sooth my frazzled brain.

My mom & sister came for a short Mother's Day weekend. We went to the Glacier Symphony's season finale performance of Holst's "The Planets", my favorite symphony, plus a couple other works. The guest violinist was Tim Fain. Amazing! Afterwards, we went to the North Bay Grille for a snack and a martini. I had a Metropolitan - Absolut, Cointreau, Chambord liquer and lime. YUM!

This morning I made a crustless crab quiche, with some strawberries and kiwi on the side. Then we ran around for a while before we headed to Bigfork for the Mum's Day Tea at Chris' Tea Cottage. I'm currently stuffed with chilled strawberry soup, fruit, cucumber strawberry sandwiches, chicken & chive sandwiches, cheese, scones with lemon curd (OMG!) and clotted cream (OMG!!). Lots of delicious tea and mimosas or sherry to drink. Oh, and of course, a dessert of petite fours, chocolate truffles, poppyseed cake and European chocolate. YUM! If you like tea, and high tea especially, this is a wonderful place to stop.

Now, it's time for laundry and put my feet up for a while. Then it's back to work tomorrow. What happened to Saturday?

Yarn, yarn and more yarn

Do you think I have too much yarn? Is a large Rubbermaid storage bin full of yarn, too much? Is it too much if there is a matching smaller bin to go with it, also full of yarn? What about the large shopping bags, which only number around 3, too much yarn?

There are worse habits I could have. So far, no one has made yarn illegal. Even if it is crack yarn or you see some yarn porn and just know it's made of crack yarn. BTW... crack yarn is yarn that is so good it's addictive. Yarn porn are the sweaters that  Russell Crowe wore in "Mystery, Alaska". The sweaters looked really good. Actually, so did Russell. See also David O'Hara in "The Matchmaker". More yarn porn.

Someone asked on a blog "what is the favorite thing you've knit?" It's always the last thing I've made.

Is it really spring?

Well, the calendar says it is.

And the weather is typical spring-time in the Rockies Montana. Wake up and have to brush a dusting of snow off my car, then scrape the windows and run the defroster. The sun comes out about 10 a.m. for a few minutes, then hides behind clouds. Then it snows. Then the wind picks up and we have a repeat performance of sun, clouds, snow and wind in the afternoon. Temperatures are usually in the 40s by afternoon. Now it's partly cloudy, but I can see blue sky.

But it does stay light much later. In fact, I don't have to turn on my lights in the apartment until around 8 p.m. now.

Big Mountain Resort  (15 miles to the north) is closing for the season this weekend. Even though they had over 30 inches of new snow in the last week. Why would they close now you ask? Well, the bears are waking up (the black variety) and the nasty ones (Grizzlies) are getting more active. One run has already closed because of bears. I can just imagine bears picking off unsuspecting skiers as they shoosh down the hillside. It could be an Olympic event! Instead of the Super G or Giant Slalom, the athletes could just try to avoid getting eaten.

I read where the first big rotary plow headed up the Going To The Sun road in Glacier National Park. Spring plowing began today. Of course, they got 12+ inches of new snow over the weekend and it was snowing up there today. They are predicting that the alpine part of the road won't be open until June 13th. Three days after Cathy leaves. But perhaps the weather gods will cooperate and the whole road will be open June 6th instead. If not, I'm hoping the trail to Avalanche Lake will be. The waterfalls feeding the lake should be amazing with all the snow we've had this year.

Hope everyone's first bit of spring is warmer and drier than mine.

Silly weather

There are dark clouds and it's sunny. Earlier, it was fairly clear and snowing. Welcome to Montana weather, March style. I'm so ready for spring. One more month and they should start plowing the Going To the Sun highway in Glacier. There should still be lots of snow and great run-off for Cathy's visit in early June.

Let's see, what else is new? Just did my taxes. Miniscule refund from the feds, had to pay state. *rolls eyes* Other than that, I'm doing the same - knitting, working, same old, same old.

Watching "Flash Gordon" as I type this. The good Flash, the one from 1980. Wonderful memories of a friend and I going to see this movie in Missoula, singing an ode to Flash's leather shorts all the way home in the snow. It's a campy, goofy movie, but I love it. And the soundtrack rocks! Flash! A-ah! Savior of the universe!

Yeah, what Sean says...

But I don't read enough. It's not that I don't have enough to read, I have books in every room of my apartment. Including the bathroom. But I just don't take the time to read.  And I'm finding that I miss it.

I have a book on the National Hockey League, on places I've visited (Fallingwaters, Old Sturbridge Village and New Zealand). I have books on places I want to go. I have books on Egyptology, Roman medicine, Greek mythology, The Bible. I have Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia and Tolkien. I have the complete Sharpe series. I have books on the history of the ice ages and the geological history of Yellowstone. I have a book on the archeology of the Big Horn Battlefield and a book on the fight for the dinosaur fossils at the Carnegy Museum. I have A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking and The Physics of Star Trek. I have The Iliad and The Odyssey. I have books on outrageous women, personal finance and personal growth. I have all my physical therapy textbooks. I have a book about Queen, The Memoirs of Cleopatra, a biography of Alexander the Great, the murder of Atilla the Hun, and the battle of Thermopylae.  And I have many others.

But the one book I'm most interested in reading isn't released in the US yet. It's called Bang! A Complete History of the Universe by Chris Lintott, Sir Patrick Moore and Dr. Brian May. Yes, THE Brian May, guitarist for Queen (if you didn't already know). Queen really was an interesting and eclectic mix of brainiacs. A graduate student of astrophysics (Brian), a BS in Biology (Roger), a degree in graphic art and design (Freddie) and an honors graduate in electronics, with an emphasis in acoutistics and vibration (John).

It pays to read.

And you should see all my knitting books!

"We Are The Champions:...

...An Olympic Celebration" is the title of a concert being put on by the Flathead High School choirs on Tuesday night. The various choirs will sing songs in honor of the upcoming Summer Olympics in China, with some of the songs being sung in Chinese.

The evening will end on a high note, with "the Mens choir singing a medley of hits by Queen."

Cool! Maybe I'll have to go.

The Letter "M"

The letter "M" and this meme are from [info]smor

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

1. Mads Mikkelsen - a fabulous actor, a gorgeous man. The Great Dane. What's not to love?

2. Marton Csokas - another fabulous actor and another gorgeous man.

3. Mom - I love my mom. Nothing more needs to be said.

4. Manos del Uruguay Yarn - a beautiful yarn from artisans in rural areas of Uruguay. The purchase of this beautiful handspun and kettle-dyed wool bring economic and social opportunities to the women of these villages.

5. Mary Muffin's Merry Muffin Shoppe - a silly little story I wrote that I loved. A few other folks loved it, too.

6. Mercury - as in Freddie. He was unique, he was incomparable, he is sorely missed. His was the voice.

7. Mountains - I live near them and on a clear day, I can see them in all directions. There is nothing more magical than seeing the pale moonrise above the mountains, the snow pink in the late afternoon sun. Beautiful.

8. Montana - I am one of those rare creatures. A native of Montana. From the mountains in the west to the wheat fields in the east, Montana is The Last Best Place. Come visit.

9. Misfire - The first song written by John Deacon. A sweet pop song that never fails to get my toes a-tappin'.

10. Manicotti - Yum! Had some for lunch!

Anyone want a letter?
